REFERRING to the article in The Bugle (January 30 edition) regarding Bert Williams and his second career, I would like to add to the story line.
My wife Dorothy, who has been in a care home for approximately 12 years, worked for Bert in Bath Street, Bilston, along with a Mrs June Gittings many years ago.
In addition to selling sports goods and equipment the two ladies took bookings for the cricket lane and the squash court.
Bert himself met the customers and visitors until he sold the business to Jim Cumbes and John Osbourne (ex Villa and Albion goalkeepers). He, Bert, also had a small engine company in the Shifnal area at that time and has touched the hearts of many. I, too, have been an avid Black Country Bugle reader for years. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
