I used old Tangye chain hoist on my Austin Seven car

FURTHER to the articles by Bill Pace in The Bugle (April 3 and 10 editions) concerning Tangye Brothers, I enclose a photograph, above, of a Tangye chain hoist that resides in my garage.

The hoist had been in the possession of other members of the family for many years and when I obtained it, it was quite rusty and dirty.

At that stage I had no idea of the maker's name, but about two years ago I decided it was time it was tidied up.

I believe that it was originally painted black, but when I found the name Tangye was on it, I thought it should be more prominent, hence the red name on a green background.

The reverse side of the main pulley contains the legend, 'Weston Block. Tested to 5cwt'.

The hoist has been used quite recently to lift and replace the engine of my Austin Seven Special.

Wednesfield.
