THIS is a photograph of the Great Western, Bradley, Bilston, who were the Banks's & Hansons/Silk Cut Sports Quiz Champions for 1987.

From left to right are Dave Ashley, Julian Pincher, Vaughan Whitehead (quiz master), Neil Sutton, David Stokes and a Banks's representative.

In 1986 we finished runners-up to the Griffin Arms, Dudley, then in 1987 we won the title and again the following two years.

The competition was open to all Banks's & Hanson's pubs.

Some of the teams were from as far as Wales, Leicester, Leek, Kidderminster, Birmingham and all over the Black Country. With regional heats and semi final stages more than 100 teams entered.

Sixteen teams qualified for the final held at the Ward Arms, Dudley. The landlord of the Western at the time was Mick Gill.

Other quizzers over the years were Keith Morgan, Jerry Dutton, Andrew Young, Wally Hughes and Brian Pinnock.

We were quite a successful team and won lots of quizzes over the years.

Neil Sutton,
