YOU asked in The Bugle (June 26 edition) for anyone who took part in the West Bromwich Schools competition.

I was one of the chosen schoolboys. Aged 13/14 I attended Willingsworth School where the sports masters were Mr Gary Mumphord and Mr Palmer.

In 1967 and 1968 I was selected to compete for West Bromwich Schoolboys in both javelin and shot put.

In 1968 I set the West Bromwich schoolboy shot put record (39ft plus). I don't know if this has ever been beaten.

I received a Big Certificate for this (sadly lost at some time). In 1968 I was delighted to get selected yet again for County Sport for Staffs at Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton.

I finished in the top three and again I got a Big Certificate.

Kevin David Dolton.
