RE the letter in The Bugle (June 19 edition) from Iris Gill.
I well remember the throstle blazer badge of the pre-war West Bromwich Grammar School which was a gold embroidered throstle sitting on a hawthorn branch; our school playing fields were close to the Albion ground too.
The hats, too, I remember and woe betide if you were caught in the street not wearing one in school time. The first year girls had a lovely close fitting hat for the winter term similar to the district nurses. Rose Parker was in my class for the first two years, then she went in to the language class, but I chose science!
