I RECALL the accident which was mentioned in the 10th October edition, when a lorry overturned in the middle of Pensnett. (See Brian Gisby’s letter on page 7).
It was at 8.30 one morning, in May or June, 1958.
It happened outside Hurdman’s Drapers Shop at High Oak, and the girders on the lorry hit a woman on the side of the road. Mavis Parkes, of Pensnett, was killed, and only in her early 20s.
Ialso remember Mrs Cadwallader being injured. It was a terrible accident and has never been forgotten in Pensnett.
