IN The Bugle (July 4, 2013 edition) Brian Knowles wrote an article on his relatives Frank and Miriam Knowles of Cradley.
I enclose three photographs showing their connection with St Katherine's Church.
Both Frank and Miriam were staunch members of the church, being choristers, and Miriam a Sunday School teacher.
The photograph of the choir, above, I believe was taken around the late 1930s.
Being a member of that choir in the 1940s I can name a few.
Back row left to right ?, Sim Worton, Frank Knowles, Harry Barber, Williams, Garnet Harris, ?, Wilfred Overton, Vernon Clifton (organist), Percy Smith (gents hair dresser from Colley Gate), Harold Dunlop, ?, Luther Etherington, Harry Cox (licensee of the Round of Beef).
Front row – ?, ?, Miriam Knowles, Ivy Dunlop, ?, ?, Wallace Cox (curate), ?, Clifton, ?, Smith, ?, ?.
Can any Bugle readers name the others?
The other two smaller photographs, below, were taken on a church outing for the Men's Guild of Cradley and many of the men are also on the main picture of the choir.
The location I think is Bourton on the Water, Frank Knowles is near the centre of the picture.
Also Frank's father is the one wearing the flat cap at the back of the picture.
The coloured photograph, above, shows three employees of J.M. Tate (builders of Cradley whom Frank Knowles worked for) left to right – Wilfred Overton, ?, (painters & decorators) and Joe Knowles (foreman).
Can any reader identify the location and the person in the middle of the picture?
