I still have my West Bromwich prefect's badge

WITH reference to the letter from Mrs Cartwright in The Bugle (January 30 edition), I would like to make some corrections.

I myself went to West Bromwich Municipal Secondary School in September 1938, from Fisher Street School, Great Bridge.

The name changed to West Bromwich Grammar School in September 1939. In 1964, it moved to new premises in Clarkes Lane, West Bromwich, from Lodge Road, still as the Grammar School.

In 1969 it changed to a comprehensive school and became Menzies High School.

I remember Miss Evans as the history teacher, although I was in 1B with Miss Samper (English) as our form mistress.

I also remember Rose Parkes being head girl, probably when I was in my third year.

I still have my own prefect's badge - a thistle surrounded by a laurel leaf in blue and gold enamel - the school colours, and also my Greek House badge.

A group of us 'girls', who started at the same time, keep in touch and hopefully will again be meeting for lunch for our annual reunion in March.

Iris Gill,

(nee Vanes),

18 Clarkes Grove,
