RE the story of Whites versus Stripes in The Bugle (July 3 edition).

If these two photos were taken at the official pre-season Colours v. Whites game of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in 1920, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's 1st team against Reserves.

Very often two strong teams were selected.

Firstly, the Whites show two errors that have never been corrected in the files. Back row, left to right, last but one, I believe is Archie Thomas, not Joe Hodnett. Front row, left to right, last but one, I believe is Frank Burrill, not Eric Cutler. The Colours: Back row, left to right, Jack Davies (Asst, Trainer), Joe Hodnett next to him, the goalkeeper is Noel George. Front row, left to right, with the last three are Jack Sambrook, Tansy Lea and Dick Richards.

The player to the left of Jack Sambrook could be Eric Cutler, but it's a guess.

The player on the back row last but one, left to right, I thought was Alf Riley, but I'm not sure.

Hoping this is useful information.

Malcolm Palmer.
