My father worked at Walsall Locks

WITH reference to Mrs Lily Adams' letter about Walsall Locks in The Bugle (July 10 edition).

I wonder if she remembers my father, Bernard Stanaway, who was a store keeper at the 'Locks' for 51 years.

He worked with Stan Underwood, Jack Davies, Florry Winyard, Peter Wright, Jim and Brenda whose surnames I cannot remember.

I recall the Christmas parties for the children and the games in the works' canteen, followed by a bag of sweeties and an orange and a man named Mr Butler who had only one arm.

My father died in 1973, two years after retiring. I enjoyed reading your letter, Mrs Adams.

Sheila Stanaway,

Walstead Road,

Delves, Walsall
