RE the article entitled Local historian view of his home town and the photographs of Bilston then and now in The Bugle (May 22 edition).

The picture you say is the Wellington Road, is in fact the Mount Pleasant area of the town.

In the coloured photo, you can see the Robin Club, while in the older photo of the same view on the right is Bilston Police Station, then the Globe Hotel, which my father, the late H. Southall-Owen, kept from the late 1950s to early 1960s.

Also on the left of the picture you can see what was known as the Drill Hall, which is now the home of the Robin, also on the left you can see the old Theatre Royal.

I hope this is of interest to your readers.

R. Southall-Owen,

39 Lawley Road, Bilston.
