YET another disappointing result at Luctonians. For the first time this season it was visible towards the final quarter of the game that heads were beginning to drop.

DK kicked off with a strong sun at their backs and following an early exchange of kicks Dudley began to exert some pressure only to kick away good possession. The hosts did not make the same mistakes when in the seventh minute they secured. A good line out ball and following some slick handling scoreD a try which was successfully converted.

The DK scrum was under pressure and it was only the control of Jon Tideswell at the base that prevented more damage being done. However after 12 minutes DK were penalised for not releasing, eventually resulting in Luctonians scoring a pushover try but an unsuccessful conversion.

There then followed a period of scrappy play. In the 20th minute DK were penalised on their ten metre line for going over the top. The hosts took a quick tap penalty and a combination of good retention and poor tackling by DK saw a score under the posts and extra points added to put Luctonians 19-0 up.

DK then went through their best passage of play. Following a good kick by Gareth Bown, which was not dealt with by the hosts' full back, DK won a lineout inside the Luctonians' 22 metre line. The ball was moved crisply along the backs only for a very promising position to be wasted by a final poor pass. This pressure by DK was short lived and the Luctonian pack now in total control.

Too many handling errors were now creeping into the Dudley game and what little possession they had was squandered by poor passing. This was compounded by weak tackling and was highlighted immediately after DK were reduced to fourteen, when Gareth Bown was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on. DK 0 Luctonians 31

The final act of the first half was a similar pattern with the home side waltzing through a weak defence for Dan Smith to score wide out. Tom Jones was unable to add the extra points.

The second half started brightly for DK but errors were creeping into their play and they made the fundamental error of kicking directly into touch from just outside their 22.

From the resulting lineout Luctonians moved the ball swiftly along their backs for wing Adam Knight to score. Tom Jones added the extra points.

After 53 minutes DK re-shuffled their backs. Kieran Pinches replaced James Jefferson which meant Liam Marshall moved to the wing to be replaced in the centre by Gareth Bown with Kieran Pinches taking over the duties at fly half. This had an immediate effect with Gareth Bown making a good break and a fine kick into the corner.

At this stage on 58 minutes Jon Tideswell was strangely replaced by Matt Squires. DK kept up the pressure and Luctonians' Sam Jones was yellow carded for a technical offence. Dudley elected to kick for position but poor handling coupled with good Luctonian defence defused the situation.

There then followed a disjointed passage of play between the two 22 metre lines. But in the 76th minute following a Luctonian lineout they once again caught and drove over the visitors line for Jordy Street to score. The try went unconverted.

At this point the DK team looked totally down and out and in the final ten minutes they conceded four tries, all carbon copies. From each kick off Luctonians ran the ball straight back and on all occasions crossed for tries. Tom Jones converted two leaving a very dispirited DK side well and truly beaten.
