THE new season that brings the advent of win/lose cricket for our league has started – but with a bit of a whimper, with 26 out of 48 matches failing to start.

Of those that did, ten were settled on scoring rates. With three team scores over 250 and even an opening day centurion, it proves the value of covers and keen ground staff!

In DIVISION ONE 1st XIs, there were wins for Pershore, Colwall and Nomads in the three games played to a conclusion. Pershore had a comfortable victory at home to Droitwich with the returning Liam Ridings scoring 52 and Tom Pilling taking 4-17. Colwall and Nomads defeated Worcester and Harvington respectively in matches severely affected by rain but were able to achieve adjusted targets required under new rules.

Next week, Bromyard will be hoping to make a start to their league campaign as they entertain Nomads, and Pershore visit neighbours Evesham. Colwall will be hoping to maintain their start as they host Belbroughton.

DIVISION TWO 1st XIs saw a big win for Cookley at Worcester Dominies and a convincing triumph for newly merged Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social at home to Feckenham, plus a faster scoring rate win for Enville at Rushwick.

DIVISION THREE 1st XIs had play in just two matches with Alvechurch and Alveley abandoned midway through and Stourport recording a faster scoring rate win over Avoncroft thanks to an undefeated 58 from Bevan Neill and 5 wickets by Matt Delo.

DIVISION FOUR 1st XIs – now a 12 team division, half the games were played with wins for Bartestree over Himley, with Luke Sparrow the all-round star scoring 65 and taking 4 wickets. Claverley bowled out Kidderminster 3rds for just 34 and romped home early. lastly Bromsgrove 3rds defeated Oldswinford & Stourbridge Social's 3rds on scoring rate.

SECOND XIs

DIVISION ONE is led by Hagley, Rushwick and Worcester Nomads who all recorded wins. Hagley beat their local rivals Pedmore by just 2 wickets and the other two had faster run rate victories. Nomads scored 251-3 at Cookley with Paul Gardner notching 95 and Rushwick's Matt Davies made 63 as his side restricted Droitwich to claim the faster scoring rate win as revealed by the Roberson/Tansell system.

In DIVISION TWO, only one game started, with Enville defeated Pershore on scoring rate.

DIVISION THREE – Avoncroft beat Wormelow with a century from new signing Andy Nichol and 5 wickets from Simon Wilkes. Bredon easily accounted for Claverley and in the other match played, Bartestree overcame Himley.

DIVISION FOUR 2nds have just one result in so far, in which Old Vigornians beat Kidderminster 4ths thanks to a better run rate.
