FORMER Walsall Legends are playing their part in helping Darlaston Town (1874) FC get up-and-running for the 2014/15 season.

This Sunday 2 March, Walsall Legends will be playing a fund raising game against a Darlaston Town XI at Bentley Leisure Pavilion, Bentley Road North, Bentley , Walsall WS2 0EA. The game kicks off at 2pm.

The Saddlers and Darlaston have a great history together dating back to 1911/12 when both clubs plied their trade in the Birmingham League.

Over the years 31 players have played for both clubs including Saddlers legends such as Harry Wait who started his career at Darlaston and went on to train a young Bert Williams, Tony Richards and Bill "Chopper" Guttridge. The legends squad for the game includes former player and manager Martin O'Connor, Darren Wrack, Ian Roper, Tony Barras, Mark Taylor, Andy Reece, Brian Palgrave, Tony Millard, Tommy Dass , Terry Angus and Walsall's own British Lightweight Champion Martin Gethin.

After folding last season the former West Midlands Regional League side under their new name Darlaston Town (1874) FC are hoping to raise sufficient funds to rejoin the League for the 2014/15 season.

Admission to the evening is £3 for adults, and £1 concessions. There will be a commemorative match day programme, with bar and food available.
