If you saw The National TV Awards 2014 last night (22nd January) you’ll know that Coronation Street and Ant and Dec were amongst the big winners of the night. The event took place at London's O2 Arena and saw many of the well-known names get together to celebrate their achievements.
After an action packed week on screen actress Julie Hesmondhalgh from Coronation Street, whose character Hayley committed suicide in a controversial right-to-die storyline, was awarded the Serial Drama Performance with the soap picking up the best Serial Drama title for the third year running.
It was also an emotional night for Ant and Dec with the much loved pair from Newcastle taking home three awards. I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! was awarded the best Entertainment Programme and the duo won the award for Entertainment Presenter for the thirteenth time running!
They also received the Landmark gong to mark 25 years in the industry and on top of all this they enjoyed a royal tribute from Prince Charles who said "The nation has taken them to their hearts." The tearful twosome said: “Neither of us would be here if it wasn't for each other” before posing for a selfie on stage.
Other successful shows include Dr Who which received two awards, Strictly Come Dancing which won the best Talent Show gong and Khali Best from Eastenders who won the Newcomer award.
