Tidings of joy with more festive events

HERE'S a round-up of festive events across the Black Country over the coming week.

Brownhills Methodist Church holds its Christmas Tree Festival, December 12-14. Sir Richard Shepherd will switch on the lights at the opening ceremony at 7.30pm on Thursday (12th). The church will be open for viewing from 9am to 3pm on Friday (13th) and there will also be a mini market on Saturday (14th), from 9am to 1.30pm, with Christmas stalls and refreshments. The church will be open until 3pm for viewing of the trees.

There will be a Carol Service at St John's Methodist Church, Bloxwich, on Friday, December 13, at 7.30pm. And the next day the church's Community Christmas Festival begins, running until Sunday, December 22. There will be 25 crib scenes around the church and the church will be open for viewing from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, December 14, and from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, 17th, Wednesday, 18th, and Thursday, 19th.

Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery hosts a Festive Concert and Open Mic Night on Friday, December 13, from 7pm. Admission is £3 for you to perform or just watch the show.

Father Christmas' Little Helpers Day is on Saturday, December 14, at the Oak House Museum, West Bromwich. Bring along any good quality new/used toys (not stuffed animals) for children at Sandwell Hospital. There will be competitions and prizes, and Christmas tunes by the Jazz on Tap band. The Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir give their annual Christmas Charity Concert at Dudley Town Hall on Saturday, December 14, at 7.30pm. They'll be joined by the Langley Band and compere Annie Hodkinson. Tickets are £10 and are available on 01384 812812.

On Saturday, 14th, and Sunday, 15th December, at Haden Hill House Museum, Cradley Heath, you can celebrate Christmas in traditional style as Haden Old Hall is decorated with real greenery as it would have been for the festive season in the 1600s. Father Christmas will be in his grotto with a gift for children (£2.50 per child). Call 01384 569444 for details.

Children can meet Santa at Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery, from 11am to 3pm, on Sunday, December 15. Admission is £2.50 per child. Clayhanger Methodist Church holds its Carol Service at 2.45pm on Sunday, December 15.

There is a Christmas Family Fun Day at the Manor House Museum, West Bromwich, on Sunday, December 15, from 11am to 3pm. Admission is free but there is a small charge for some activities. See the production of Cinderella by Innerstate, meet Santa in a story time session, or browse the craft stalls. Call 0121 588 2985 for details.

Shelfield Methodist Church has its traditional Christingle Service on Sunday, December 15, at 4pm.

The Collegiate Church of St Peter, Wolverhampton, hosts a Shoppers' Carol Service on Wednesday, December 18, at 1pm. There is Christmas wreath making at the Leasowes, Halesowen, on Wednesday, December 18, from 10am to midday. Call 01384 814642 to book a place.

The Dudley civic carol service takes place at 7.30pm at St Thomas and St Luke's Church (Top Church) on Wednesday, December 18. Mayor of Dudley Councillor Alan Finch will be in attendance for the traditional service of nine lessons and carols, with refreshments and mince pies afterwards.

The Goldmine Centre, Lower Hall Lane, Walsall, hosts a performance of Cinderella at 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 18.
