Supt Charles was a real character with a chest tattoo

I WAS looking through some back numbers of The Bugle when I came across one of your articles which mentioned a former colleague of mine, Ray Heighway, and a couple of his stories which I remember as well.

However, what drew me to the article was the photograph of the policeman. I don't know where you got it from, but it is a photograph of Supt Charles Rudnick, a Worcestershire Policeman.

He was quite a character and this was illustrated by the fact that he had a ship in full sail tattooed across his barrel-shaped chest.

He was a man who liked the camera and I have many photos of him in different situations. The photo you showed was probably taken around 1912 when he was superintendent at Halesowen.

I have been researching the history of the Worcestershire Constabulary and the Kidderminster Borough Police for many years and I am always on the lookout for photos and memorabilia from those forces to ensure they are not thrown away and lost for ever.

If anyone can help please contact me via the email address below.

Kind regards.

Bob Pooler,

Worcestershire Constabulary,
