MEMORIES came back to me when reading your articles in The Bugle about the Sunday night big band shows at the Hippodrome.
I was about 15 at the time, and with my pals, we walked from Woodside to the Station Hotel for a quick drink and into the theatre, standing room only (cash was difficult to come by in those days).
What a time we used to have, the rapport between band members and the audience was fantastic, no bad language but so much fun.
In fact we seemed to meet the same faces every week. Some had travelled from Stafford and Coventry which gives an idea of the attraction years ago.
It's a pity that the Hippodrome was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair.
I'm sure that some one at Dudley Council could have generated interest and kept the flag flying.
All competition within a 20-mile radius have congested roads and parking problems. Dudley can offer restaurants, bus, taxis and hotels, all within a short walking distances.
Also no one has mentioned that the Hippodrome was built by AJ Crump Ltd., who were from Wellington Road. Dudley.
In fact to provide myself with some cash I used to help clean their offices with my mother twice a week.
