BACK in our 999 edition (20th October) we printed a photograph of the Eastfield School football team from Wolverhampton, with a trophy which has since been confirmed as the Corke Cup.
And now, thanks to Harry Spittle of Wolverhampton, we are able to show pictures of another school team which won the Corke Cup, playing Eastfield in the final in 1963. This was the team from Wobaston School, and Harry writes, “I actually played in this cup final for Wobaston senior school. We won this game 2-1; it was a first years’ competition for all Wolverhampton senior schools.
“It was played at Wolverhampton Racecourse, Gorsebrook Road, and the goals for Wobaston were scored by Paul Hill in the first half, and the second goal was scored by myself early in the second half bringing it to 2-0. Then a late goal was scored by Barry Briggs I think, for Eastfield”.
