Seven sinks Westwood hopes

Any hopes Lee Westwood had of making his presence felt in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth looked to have ended when he ran up a seven for the second day running.

The world number three, loser of a play-off to Luke Donald a year ago, had survived the halfway cut with nothing to spare after driving out of bounds on the 17th on Friday.

This time it was the 470-yard 13th that sent him tumbling down the leaderboard again, a triple bogey taking him from one under par to two over.

Westwood was in joint 59th place as a result and that was 14 strokes behind compatriot James Morrison, who following his stunning second round 64, had opened up a four-stroke lead over Donald and Scot David Drysdale.

Ian Poulter was going much better. He birdied the first, fourth and eighth to climb to 25th place on three under.
