Poll: Smoking 'no longer glamorous'
Smoking a cigarette is no longer considered "cool or glamorous", a poll suggests.
Just 1% of smokers believe they look trendy when lighting up, according to the survey of 2,000 UK smokers.
The poll, conducted on behalf of the British Heart Foundation ahead of No Smoking Day next Wednesday , showed two-thirds of smokers (67%) believe public attitudes towards smoking have become increasingly negative over recent years.
Doireann Maddock, senior cardiac nurse for the charity, said: "Smoking has been considered normal for far too long so it's encouraging to see attitudes are finally changing.
"The results are great news for smokers aiming to quit this No Smoking Day because they suggest friends and family are more likely to fully support them in beating their addiction to tobacco for good."
Smokers who want help and advice about quitting can visit WeQuit.co.uk or call 0800 434 6677.
