IPCC probe council tax arrest death
The police watchdog has assured the family of a man who died after falling from a jetty when he was arrested for not paying council tax that it will hold a "rigorous inquiry" into his death.
Steven Bore was arrested on February 17 after two officers went to a houseboat in Canvey Island, Essex, at around midnight.
As they were escorting the 31-year-old from the boat in Smallgains Marina, he fell about four feet from the jetty onto an embankment.
Mr Bore was taken to hospital in an ambulance but was pronounced dead at around 2.45am.
Staff from watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have met with his family to explain how their investigation is progressing.
IPCC commissioner Mary Cunneen said: "Our independent investigation is progressing well and we have assured family members that we will conduct a rigorous inquiry to examine the actions of the police officers in these tragic circumstances."
The watchdog is looking at issues including why officers executed the warrant at midnight, their interaction with Mr Bore, how they escorted him along the jetty and what they did after he fell.
