Hilary Street boy with a famous Dad

Walsall FC’s defeat of the mighty Arsenal in the FA Cup in January 1933 still ranks as one of the club’s greatest achievements, and each of the Saddlers players involved attracted a certain degree of fame locally.

One was Johnny Reed,.

Mrs Pamela Pedley has sent us the photograph of  the football team at Hilary Street School, Walsall, twenty years later, which includes her father, who was the son of Johnny Reed, as she explains....

“ I attach a copy of a photograph that has recently come into my possession. It is of Hilary Street football team 1953. My father (who is now deceased) is third from the left on the back row. His name was Johnson Reed and his father, John Reed, played in defence for the Walsall team that beat Arsenal in 1933.

I have no idea who anyone else on the photograph is but thought it might be of interest to your readers and that someone might be able to shed some light on who the other players are.”
