WE are indebted to former St John’s (Kates Hill) schoolboy Roger Woodall for supplying the fine football photograph on the right, showing his school team in season 1954/55, when they topped the local schools league in Dudley. And what a neatly kitted-out team of nine year olds they were.
St John's football team.
Roger, who is on the front row, far left, tells us that the team was a revelation at the time, being undefeated in over two years.
Can you spot yourself in the talented line-up, which reads...
Back Row: Mr Meddings (Sports Master), Mr Robinson (Headmaster).
Middle Row: V. Newey, R. Checketts, ? Roovers, ? Stanton, ? Jones, A. Mullett, C. Freston.
Front Row: R. Woodall, ? Smith, ? Allen, ? Turley, ? Whitehouse, ? Lloyd.
