Doherty dream ended

Neil Robertson ended Ken Doherty's campaign at the Betfred.com World Championship as he completed a 10-4 victory over the Irishman.

The 1997 champion had come through qualifying to make it to the Crucible but he entered the session on Sunday night 7-2 in arrears and Australian Robertson soon set up a second-round clash with David Gilbert who had earlier beaten Martin Gould 10-8.

Seven-time champion Stephen Hendry overcame a wobble to convert his 8-1 overnight lead over Stuart Bingham to a 10-4 victory.

When the evening's opening three frames went to Bingham, it raised the prospect of a comeback, but Hendry soon quashed that and goes on to tackle defending champion John Higgins in the second round.

There was controversy in the other match to be completed on Sunday as Mark Allen accused his surprise Crucible conqueror Cao Yupeng of failing to own up to a "blatant" push shot at a pivotal stage in the match.

Northern Irishman Allen, who lost 10-6 to the world number 81, said he was "disgusted" with the behaviour of his 21-year-old Chinese opponent, who was making his debut in the tournament.

Cao firmly denied any knowledge of the incident, which Allen stated came with his opponent on a break of eight in the 10th frame and playing a red with awkward bridging. The break later ended on 33 and Cao won the frame to extend his lead to 6-4.

Allen said at his post-match press conference: "I thought the big turning point in the match was at 5-4 when he was in the balls and Paul Collier, the referee, missed a blatant push. It was quite obvious to me and anyone who was watching at home would have been able to see it."

There is no rule covering the issue but players are expected to call fouls which are not spotted by referees.

Shaun Murphy, the 2005 champion, leads Welsh debutant Jamie Jones 5-4 overnight, and 17-year-old Belgian Luca Brecel trails Scotland's Stephen Maguire 6-3.
