Broncos to remain in London

London Broncos have ended speculation over their immediate future by confirming they will continue to play at the Twickenham Stoop in 2013.

The once-nomadic Londoners' contract at the Stoop, which they share with Harlequins rugby union club, was up at the end of this season and they had considered moving to a new home in a bid to boost disappointing attendances.

Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium became a potential venue after the club attracted a crowd of 3,930 - their third highest of the Super League season - for an on-the-road game against Hull in May, while a match against Bradford drew 2,844 fans to Leyton Orient.

The Broncos will play two more games away from home next season as they continue to keep their options open for 2014 onwards.

Chief executive Gus Mackay said: "After lengthy negotiations and discussions, we have decided to remain at the Stoop for another year.

"The success of last season's on-the-road games has given us the opportunity to continue with this concept in 2013.

"The venues for these two games will be finalised in due course as we seek to attract new audiences and spread the game across the south of England.

"Now we have agreed our home ground for 2013 we can now focus on planning for next season."

The Londoners have moved around the capital since their formation as Fulham at Craven Cottage in 1980 but are now in their second spell at the Stoop, having moved back in with Quins in 2006.

They even changed their name to Harlequins RL but reverted to Broncos for the start of the 2012 season.
