A SUCCESSFUL Black Country amateur dramatic group is seeking to hold auditions in the near future to add to their already enthusiastic band of players, and Brendan Hawthorne, Wednesbury Poet Laureate and well known Black Country musician, has sent us the following details.

"The amateur dramatic group 'The Wednesbury Civic Players' are looking for more members to join them by holding auditions at Wednesbury Library on Wednesday September 3. The group were brought together in the run up to the highly acclaimed musical-play 'Hard Graft-All for Twenty-Three Bob', which I was fortunate to write over a period of several years. I am the artistic leader of the group and if the enthusiasm shown last autumn is anything to go by, I'm sure there are people itching to have a go this time round.

"From the outset it was clear to me that this group of people would stick together as an amateur dramatic group and I am really proud of their professionalism and dedication to their art. It is heartening for us all to know at the Wednesbury Civic Players that with new commissions ready to perform we are in a positive frame of mind to expand the ranks.

"We are seeking singers, actors, as well as experienced sound, lighting and scenery and props technicians. This is a perfect opportunity for budding actors building their CV in the field of drama, or for someone who simply wants to be part of a successful group of actors, performers and writers."

The auditions will run from 7pm to 10pm and anyone interested is asked to book a time slot. They will need to bring with them a five minute long prepared performance piece and a song of their choice. They will also be required to act a short scene with some of the Civic Players, details of which will be provided on the night. Brendan Hawthorne can be contacted on 07970 441110 for audition booking which are for over sixteen year olds only.
