IN LAST week’s Bugle we featured a picture that showed seven Warner Brothers TV cowboys from the late ’50s/early ’60s, and just for a bit of fun asked the question, can you name the seven gunslinging actors and what shows they appeared in?
Hopefully, like Mr N. Stanley of Pensnett, Ron Southall-Owen of Bilston, and Mr I. Hackett of Rowley Regis, all of whom sent their answers to us in the post, you had a stab at naming the sharp shooters.
The answers, provided by Alan Keeling, are as follows: From left to right, Will Hutchings (Sugarfoot), Peter Brown (Lawman), Jack Kelly (Maverick), Ty Hardin (Bronco), James Garner (Maverick), Wayde Preston (Colt 45), John Russell (Lawman).
Mr Stanley told us, "I’ve written to you because the ’50s and ’60s Westerns were a favourite of mine," and Ron added the following information. "From a personal point of view I think this period of the late ’50s/early ’60s, was the golden age of television, and look forward to more Alan Keeling articles in the future. I remember one episode of the Western series Maverick when all seven cowboys appeared together, and perhaps the picture was taken on that occasion. My father, the late Harry Southall-Owen, who used to contribute articles to the Bugle, would let me watch as many Westerns on TV as I could manage, no matter what time they were shown."
Finally Mr Hackett from Rowley Regis reckons it was a good idea to feature the quiz picture: "I hope it becomes a regular feature, perhaps naming side-kicks of various cowboys, or even their horses."
We’ll have to see, but in the meantime, ’Thanks for all yo’ comments, pardners.’
