JOHN Maynard from Heatley Heath, West Bromwich, saw my Joseph Edward Cox infants Friar Park, West Bromwich, school photograph from 1953 in The Bugle (November 7 edition).

He was on the back row 8th from left. He has a similar photo from 1952 which was published in The Bugle (March 20 edition). I was not on that one as John had changed classes.

I made contact with him and we met up in my local, Ye Old Hop Pole, Carters Green, West Bromwich, recently. John said he was looked after by his Gran Mrs Green after school who lived in Walsall Road, just several doors away from me. I used to play with him in his Gran's back garden. I remembered he had moved to the new Yew Tree Estate with his family, changing schools so I did not see him again.

My friend of 52 years Mick Sewell was also present. He lived on the Yew Tree Estate and remembered John from his schooldays at Yew Tree and Churchfields Comprehensive School. It's surprising that we all had common links to other people we knew. Best regards.

Ken Ford.
