THERE aren't too many sports you can play in a jacket and tie, but bowls is one – or at least it was sixty years ago.
This picture, taken from the Round Oak works' magazine The Acorn in 1956, shows a group of steelworks men taking a break from the heat and noise of the shop floor at what we assume was the works' own bowling green.
They were, from left to right: V MacCarrol (Bowling Section Secretary); H Williams, F Sheppard and W Wakelam (General Secretary of the Club).
