This Cradley Heath speedway programme from 1984, supplied to us by G.Bennett of Brownhills, may evoke memories for old fans. It harks back to the days when The Heathens were one of the top sides in the land.
In 2010, the Heathens’ name was revived in the guise of Dudley Heathens and managed to draw great support to their home meetings which were shared between the tracks at Monmore Green and Perry Barr.
However, back in the eighties, Cradley Heathens still graced the cinders of the track at Dudley Wood, which was to be their home for just another decade. It finally closed in 1995, and has since been redeveloped as a housing estate.
This programme was for the clash with Wimbledon on 2nd June 1984, when the Heathens were managed by Colin Pratt, with Derek Pugh and Nora M. Pugh the Directors.
Amongst the Cradley Heath riders that year were Erik Gundersen, Lance King, Phil Collins, Alan Grahame, Simon Cross, Finn Jensen and Mark Wilding.
