DARLASTON Town, who folded in July 2013 after 139 years in the game, are doing everything possible to ensure their return to the game next season.
Now with a new committee, following a public vote the new club has been named Darlaston Town (1874) FC, and their fundraising efforts continue with a football memorabilia fundraising auction on Friday 4 April 2014.
The new committee has already held several successful fund raising events including a football match involving Walsall FC Legends. On April 4 the club will be holding a Sportsman's Evening with former WBA, Wolves and Walsall forward Don Goodman and former Wolves, Manchester City and Walsall midfielder Steve Daley. The event is already a sell out and will be held at Darlaston Town Hall.
As part of the evening a whole host of donated items will be auctioned to raise much needed funds.
Amongst the items donated are a signed Kenny Dalglish Liverpool shirt, signed England and Wolves shirts as well as a WBA shirt signed by Tony 'Bomber' Brown.
Also included is a colour photograph of the 1966 England World Cup winning squad signed by 9 of the team, and a signed Paul Gascoigne and Steve Bull framed colour photo taken whilst playing for England.
New club Chairman Neil Chambers says "The generosity of local clubs and individuals continues to astound us. Amongst the items donated was a scrapbook of several signed Bert Williams photographs and pictures. Norman Lester of Willenhall read about what we are trying to achieve and very generously offered us his Bert Williams scrapbook that he kept as a young boy in the 1940s and 1950s. Norman agreed that we could split the photos which we have done and there are now several signed Bert Williams photographs available for auction. It was an unbelievable gesture
and we very grateful to Norman for his contribution."
Proxy bids can be made on any of the items, no later than 6pm on Thursday 3 April by text on 07976 752698 or by email: email@example.com."
