Wall Heath Flying Circus memories

RECENT mention of Alan Cobham's Flying Circus in The Bugle (March 13 edition) reminded me of the time when I was a lad, and I walked with some friends from Gornal down to the Mile Flat, Wall Heath.

There was a Flying Circus event there, and for five shillings you could have a couple of minutes up in a plane.

They would take you up, circle round briefly and bring you back down again. Several people I've mentioned this to have no knowledge of it at all, but I remember it clearly.

None of us Gornal lads went up in a plane though. We didn't even have enough for the bus fare.

Arthur Hale,

Redhall Road, Gornal
