Written byDan Shaw

As we approach the diamond jubilee of Elizabeth II, 2-5th June, for many thoughts will turn back to the dawn of the new Elizabethan era, and in particular to the celebrations that marked the Queen’s coronation on 2nd June, 1953.

For youngsters it was marked with street parties like that in these pictures sent in by Mrs Gloria Bytheway, nee Jones, of Tipton.

Mrs Bytheway writes, “These are photos of myself when I was queen of Stella Road when our queen was crowned.

“I remember my dress was a bridesmaid dress from my uncle’s wedding and my train was a bed cover. I was put on a chair and carried round Stella Road, Phoenix Road and Robert Road. There was a big tent on the green outside my house, no.13."

Do any readers recognise themselves or any of the other Tipton children and their mothers in these pictures from 59 years ago? Please let us know if you can tell us anything more about this event.
