Getting from A to B in days gone by was accomplished with a certain style and elegance which we seem to lack today.
Take this little omnibus as an example. It trundled along the streets and byways of Wolverhampton over a century ago, though those sitting on the top deck would have hoped for dry weather! This photograph comes to us from Norman Painting, of Small Heath, Birmingham. He explains...
“This picture, taken about 1905, shows a Wolseley bus (made at Ward End, Birmingham) in the livery of Wolverhampton Corporation Tramways, with the destination board showing Penn Fields & Lea Road. The bus was powered by a 20hp 2 cylinder horizontal petrol engine and was designed to carry about 22 passengers. It is shown here being run on Wolseley trade plates”.
