Steam-powered delivery to Walsall works in 1930

THE RARE photograph hereshows an Oldbury-made boiler being delivered to the tube works of Russell Brothers, Upper Brook Street, Walsall, in 1930.

A lot of activity 82 years ago.

What is most interesting is that the heavy load was being pulled by a Screen Bros (Oldbury) steam traction engine, the very same Burrell road locomotive that was shown in our 27th September issue.

This latter day photograph in that issue was taken at a steam rally in Bedfordshire this year, and as was seen, this old iron ‘oss is preserved in superb condition, long past its working days in the Black Country.
