Ladies' Day at Church

ROYAL ASCOT it may not have been, but these Blackheath ladies still turned on the style with their array of hats back in the 1950s! This photograph follows on from the one published three weeks ago, showing ladies with ‘big hats’, from an earlier generation, in exactly the same location, and displaying an even more impressive range of millinery.

The photographs were taken outside Birmingham Road Methodist Church, Blackheath, this one above in the early 1950s, so we are informed by the sender Jim Adams, who also supplied the earlier picture. We believe that this may have been the Women’s Own group at the church.

Amongst the ladies are the following (names supplied by Jim) — Eadie Adams, Winnie Chambers, Olive Wootton, Annie Forsbrook.

There are also three youngsters in the picture and the minister at the centre.

If you can supply any more names please let us know.
