Coronation Street Party at Palfrey

IT will soon be royal celebration time, to mark sixty years on the throne for the Queen, and here is a photograph going back to the Coronation year of 1953, when New Mills Street, Palfrey, Walsall, really got into the swing of things.

This photograph has been sent in to us by Mrs Jill Beckett, nee Cartwright, of 19 Poplar Road, Great Wyrley.

She writes, “All the neighbours were helping us to enjoy ourselves. The lady on the right of the photo, standing on the right of the gentleman wearing the party hat, was Mrs Daisy Nock, who celebrated her 100th birthday last year. She was one of the nicest ladies and she died this year just short of her 101st birthday.

We had a fantastic day and there was plenty to eat.

”It would be nice to hear from any of them”.

If any other readers have coronation day photographs, please send them in. We have had quite a few already and will print as many we can in June, around the time of the Queen’s Jubilee.
