On sunday, 2nd September, Himley Hall, near Dudley, hosts the final classic car and transport show of the season for Walsall-based Transtar Promotions. Following on from last year’s event, which attracted thousands of visitors and hundreds of vehicles, organiser Geoff Price is hoping for good weather to complete a season of events, which has been affected by inclement weather.
Now in its 13th year, the show has once again attracted over 800 vehicles from across the region with cars dating back to the 1920s, including a 1924 Rolls- Royce and a 1925, locally built Bean Tourer. Famous marques from the ’30s, including Austin, Rover, MG, Wolseley, Morris and Buick, will line up alongside the classics of the ’50s, such as Triumph Herald, Ford Zodiac, Morris Minor, Austin Cambridge and Sunbeam Rapier.
Sports cars are well provided from the 1960s, with Austin Healeys, Jaguar ETypes, MG Midgets, as well as later Triumph Stags, Spitfires, and the Porsche 924.
Enthusiasts from across the region will be competing with entries from further afield for the 19 trophies on offer and other classes include custom and kit cars, American cars, motorbikes, and commercial vehicles. There will also be 25 club displays, including Jaguar, Stag, Austin A30-A35, Mini, Rover, Mercedes- Benz, Independent Porsche Club, plus the local Black Country Classic Car and Ultimate Ford.
New for 2012 is a fine display of over 50 scooters from the West Midlands Vintage Scooter Club.
The popular autojumble area will have all kinds of automobilia on sale, including spares, tools, models, postcards, books, as well as non-motoring related items in the trade area.
For the children there are inflatables, quad bikes and miniature open-top bus rides.
Himley Hall was built in the 18th century on the site of a medieval manor house and for many years it was a secondary home to the lords of Dudley.
After the Second World War the hall was bought by the National Coal Board but in 1966 it was sold on to Dudley and Wolverhampton councils and the park was opened to the public. In 1988 Dudley bought Wolverhampton’s share and have been sole owners since.
On show day the gates are open from 10am to 4.30pm, with free onsite parking within the grounds of Himley Hall.
