Christmas treat for Sankey youngsters at Manor Works

Written byDan shaw

THESE pictures of happy children celebrating in true seasonal style, with their mothers proudly looking on, are taken from the Summer 1967 edition of Sphinx, the works magazine for the mighty Joseph Sankey and Sons empire, a copy of which has been kindly loaned to us by Pat and Terry Jordan of Coseley.

The photographs were taken at the 1966 Christmas party for the children of staff at the Manor Works, Bilston.

The original short article, under the headline “Manor Works Kiddies Party”, read: “Manor Works employees’ children had a whale of a time at their Christmas Party in the Manor Social Club – as our pictures so clearly show. The party was organised by a committee and wives and friends.” Do any readers recognise themselves, or any of the others, among those pictured 46 years ago? Perhaps your parents were among the “committee and wives and friends” that ensured everyone had such a jolly festive time. Please get in touch if you can tell us anything.
