A proud day at the park gates

HADEN HILL park at Old Hill is one of the most loved and historic green spaces in the whole of the Black Country, being home to Haden Hall and House, and over thirty acres of woodland and manicured grounds.

It is also one of our oldest parks, having been donated to the people of the Black Country by the Haden- Best family as long ago as 1922, and the photograph on the right is thought to go back to the very first day it opened to the public.

This big gathering of gentlemen was made up of local dignitaries and members of Rowley Regis U.D.C., standing at the entrance to the park in Halesowen Road.

This photograph has been supplied to us by Elizabeth Provan (nee Priest), whose great uncle was Councillor Thomas Bannister, who stands at the centre of the front row, (with a wooden left leg).
