A FAMILY photograph like the one above would be considered to be quite extraordinary today — but it was almost the norm around a hundred years ago when this photograph was taken.
Big families were the order of the day back then, and here we see Bert and Elizabeth Worton from Cradley with their FIFTEEN children, ranging from a bonny baby seated on mother’s knee through to brothers and sisters who look to be in their twenties. Factory Bert and Elizabeth certainly made sure that their offspring were dressed to a high standard. They owned a small chainmaking factory at Overend, Cradley.
This photograph has been supplied to us by Norman Willetts, on behalf of his cousin Mrs Violet Gamblin, nee Bloomer, who was born in Cradley Heath, but nowadays lives on the Isle of Wight.
Elizabeth Worton was the sister of Violet’s grandfather, Ernest Bloomer.
