THIS week’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations haven’t exactly been blessed with the best of weather — but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of everyone who has marked this proud royal milestone — and thoughts of many have naturally turned back to 2nd June 1953, when the Queen’s Coronation took place under similarly grey and cold skies.
Readers have been keen to share with us their images of that far-off day, and this week we have some more which we are delighted to publish.
This photograph shows a typical classroom party held to celebrate the Queen coming to the throne. This was taken at St James RC Primary School in Salop Street, Dudley, and has been kindly loaned to us by Calvin Tonks of Kingswinford.
Calvin is on the far right, happily tucking in with his friends to an assortment of cakes, washed down with bottles of pop.
The others, are, clockwise from the far left, Barry Morgan, Les Westwood, Kenny Harris, Barbara Westwood, Carol Raybould, Paul Dixon, Calvin Tonks and Shirley Steadman.
