READING in The Bugle (May 8 edition) about the Berlin Airlift brought back memories for me.

I was stationed at RAF Digby in the 50's and our Warrant Officer Randall was in charge of the catering, which was a massive operation, for which he was awarded the OBE.

He said to me one day: "Redfern, do you know what it stands for?" I replied: "Yes Sir. The Order of the British Empire."

"No, you're wrong. It's Other B.....s' Efforts."

Sorry for the language but that was how he put it. He didn't want to take the praise himself.

Keep up the good work on The Bugle.

Ray Redfern,
