THANK you very much for the lovely pen and pencil set which I won in The Bugle's Easter Memories contest. I'm 88 and I left Wright's Lane Central School aged 14 years.

Lately, I have loved reading in your paper about the old firms. I worked in the office at the B.T.H. Co. in Cakemore Road (my mother worked at Lenchs').

The one picture, left, I have enclosed is of a day's outing given by T.W. Lench Ltd (nut and bolt makers) in Ross, Blackheath. This photo was taken on a boat trip on the River Thames. I am right at the back – standing – wearing a hat. You won't see my mother, Mrs Skidmore, she was sitting down next to me. She was still wearing a white eye patch after having a cataract removed (not like that these days is it?) I went to look after her. It was a beautiful day out.

The other one is at St Paul's Church but I know no further details.

Mrs Mary Hackett,

11 St Giles Close,

Rowley Regis.
