AN MP met members of an historic community club to hear about an ambitious £100,000 facelift plan.
Bromsgrove MP Mr Sajid Javid, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, was told about Clent Community and Social club's refurbishment scheme, which includes a decking area, a new community meeting room and disabled access and facilities, when he visited them recently.
Club Secretary Kevin Smith said: "Clent Club is a fantastic asset for the people who live in Clent and the surrounding areas. In these changing times we wish to bring the whole community together with the club at the heart of it serving the needs of all. We want a facility that will not only be the envy of others but one that will hopefully act as an example for other similar communities to follow."
The MP was given a tour of the club and a chance to look over the plans and at the end was given a lesson in how to pull a pint by stewardess Dawn Bubb and her husband Steve.
The club was formed in 1886 and has been on the site in Pool Furlong since 1919. It was originally set up by three founding trustees and bequeathed to the community as a 'friendly society, providing recreation for men after a day's toil.'
