Lye Football Club, circa 1903

THIS rare old photograph shows what was evidently a pretty successful team, but one which has long ceased to represent its town.

They were Lye Football Club, and the picture's owner, Mr A.B. Richardson, tells us that it dates from about 1903. He can name just one of the players, he was Harry Foxall, pictured here seated at right in the middle row.

Lye Town FC, still playing today, and also sporting striped shirts, were only founded in 1930, almost three decades after this picture was taken.

Did the old Lye FC fade away when Lye Town came on the scene? We'd like to hear from you if you know anything about what became of the original Lye Football Club. Give us a call, pay us a visit at Bugle House, or send an email to gjones@black countrybugle.co.uk.
