I OFTEN wonder if Lenny Henry remembers being at night school at West Bromwich college when he came to the cooking class with Mr Overton to see if anyone had a wireless as Radio Luxembourg announced the winners of New Faces at night.
He used to entertain us in the canteen during the break.
He was very good at impressions then and so was very excited when they said that he had won.
Another thing I remembered were the lovely Sunday evenings at the Dudley Hippodrome.
I loved all the bands, one of them being Henry Hall or Geraldo introduced a young girl about 12 for the first time, but I have forgotten whether it was Julie Andrews, Pet Clarke or someone else.
I also think about my father and how he used to tell me about being aged about 12 and coming home from the cinema in Owen Street when the bomb was dropped.
His mother met him to tell him his sister was out and that he had to run and find her.
I will finish now but please excuse the writing as I am 89 this year and a bit shaky.
