THE Kingswinford Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal has so far raised a brilliant £40,1186.34p - a new record for collections by the Kingswinford Branch.

The money was raised in a variety of ways, the main bulk being donated by members of the public who gave so generously during the poppy collections at local supermarkets and local traders who displayed and sold poppies at their business premises. Fundraising events have taken place over the past 12 months, notably jumble sales, auctions, raffles and the annual sponsored Poppy Walk in September 2013. More than 50 individuals took part in the walk including George Parry who, at the age of 4, was our youngest ever walker, and Niamh Buxton and Lydia Harper who raised more than £2,000 in sponsorship. In addition to the walk Niamh did a couple of days at Merry Hill selling poppies and also carried out house to house collections.

Also thanks to Kingswinford Gentleman Songsters who donated £2,500.

We held our annual Poppy Presentation in February when awards were presented to volunteers. Grateful thanks to everyone involved.
