WE reckon The Bugle has two of the oldest paperboys in the Midlands.

Ken Groom, of Burntwood, who is 80 this year and his friend Joe Fitzpatrick, who is 74, deliver our paper every week when they make their 150-mile return trip to their caravans at Llanfair Caereinion, near Welshpool.

Ken, who has been going to the Dolgead Hall caravan site for 40 years, said: "Seven years ago our friends asked us if we could bring them three Bugles every week.

"I had a word with Paul, our local newsagent at Swan Island, Burntwood, where I buy The Bugles, and he gave me an old paper delivery bag, on which I printed "The oldest paper kids in the west". He delivers the papers on his Kawasaki GPZ 750cc which he keeps at the site with Joe, who calls Ken 'Dad'.

Ken said The Bugle is so popular that site owner Phillip has put the Bugle delivery service on the caravanners' notice board.

It has certainly worked - they now deliver 12 Bugles a week. Ken added: "Is this a record, two paper kids with a total age of 154 years?"
